This 2 ounce ultra high relief coin commemorates John Dillinger, one of the most famous US bank robbers who was born in 1903 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dillinger’s gang robbed more than twenty banks and four police stations, additionally, he also was accused of the murder of a police officer in East Chicago, but was never convicted.
During his reign even after having been imprisoned several times, more than a dozen people were killed during robberies involving police officers, federal agents and civilians.
He died young at age of 31 after having been shot and killed by special agents on July 22, 1934, following the deaths of fellow notorious criminals Bonnie and Clyde by just 2 months.
The reverse of this fantastic numismatic of Niue shows John Dillinger holding a machine gun and a terrified group of civilians fleeing the bank in panic. The background shows the exterior of the bank building that was robbed by the Dillinger’s gang.
