It comes from the Pinctada Maxima, the largest natural growth pearl oyster. It takes up to 12 weeks to select the most beautiful shells for the series, after which they are sized and then crafted into their designs using ultrasonic waves.
Snake is the sixth animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese Zodiac calendar symbols.
