2021 Cameroon 5 Ounce Divine Comedy Purgatorio High Relief Antique Finish Silver Coin
Taking a step back in time, this coin, the 3rd and final in the series, pays tribute to one of the most well-known literary works of the 14th-century — the epic poem, Divine Comedy written by the renowned Italian writer Dante Alighieri.
The poem tells the story of Dante’s journey through three Divine Realms: Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso. As an allegory, the Divine Comedy represents the journey of the soul toward God.
Dante’s journey is presented in the language of coin art, that dazzles with the masterfully crafted fine details. The stunning relief of this numismatic item depict the climb of Dante up the Mount of Purgatory, accompanied by the Roman poet Virgil. They discuss the nature of sin, examples of vice and virtue, as well as moral issues.
The unique reproduction artistically tells the main plot of the poem. After passing through the gate of Purgatory proper, Virgil guides the pilgrim Dante through the seven terraces. These correspond to the seven deadly sins: Pride, Envy, Wrath, Sloth, Avarice, Gluttony, and Lust. The terraces are minted in a high relief and further enhanced by the use of hand-polishing.
Issued with an extremely limited mintage of only 333 sets worldwide, the coin comes in a luxury varnish packaging of premium quality, making it a top-notch numismatic piece.
This is the final incredible issue of Cameroon that is dedicated to “The Divine Comedy”.
