2020 Niue 1 Ounce Dinosaurs - Tyrannosaurus Colored Antique Finish Silver Proof Coin
- In Stock - Now Shipping
The towering Tyrannosaurus Rex is featured on the first release in the exciting new Dinosaur Coin Collection from New Zealand Mint and is struck in 1 ounce of .999 pure silver.
The reverse of the coin shows a coloured representation of a T-Rex battling two small raptors. The raptors and the prehistoric landscape background are skilfully engraved for contrast. The coin is then antiqued for further effect.
The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and is legal tender in Niue.
The coin is delivered in a quality coin case containing the numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The themed outer sleeve also displays an image of this mighty dinosaur against a background of rock.
With a worldwide limit of only 2,000 coins, this beautiful silver coin would make a great start, or addition, to any Dinosaur themed collection.
Tyrannosaurus Rex became extinct about 65 million years ago in the Cretaceous-Tertiary mass extinction. It was one of the largest meat-eating dinosaurs that ever lived. Everything about this ferocious predator, from its thick, heavy skull to its 4-foot-long (1.2-meter-long) jaw, was designed for maximum bone-crushing action.
Fossil evidence shows that Tyrannosaurus was about 40 feet (12 meters) long and about 15 to 20 feet (4.6 to 6 meters) tall. Its strong thighs and long, powerful tail helped it move quickly. Its two-fingered forearms could probably seize prey, but they were actually too short to reach its mouth.
