2017 Great Britain 1 Ounce Golden Enigma Big Ben Ruthenium & Gold Silver Coin
This upcoming Golden Enigma release commemorates the famous Elizabeth Tower commonly called "Big Ben".
The tower is part of the New Westminster Palace designed by Charles Barry and built after a fire on the night of Oct 16th. 1834 which destroyed most of the Palace of Westminster.
The real Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the palace. A first bell was cast in 1856 but quickly cracked. A new bell was cast in 1858 but suffered the same fate. Finally a lighter hammer was used to strike a different section of the still damaged bell, giving us the worldwide known distinctive sound. It is a sound that has become an unmistakable symbol of British life.
This Enigma release, like the entire series, remains in strong demand due to its low mintage of just 3,000 sets worldwide.
