2014 Niue 2.5 Ounce Faberge Kiwi Silver Proof Coin Set
Issued by the South Pacific Island of Niue and struck by the Poland Mint, this exquisite Kiwi coin combines magnificent design, selective 24K Gold gilding and Swarovski Crystal elements. The coin is made of .999 fine silver and has a limited mintage of just 4,444 pieces worldwide.
The obverse of the oval-shaped coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Elizabeth II against the background of intricate decorative patterns. The portrait is surrounded by the following inscriptions: the Queen’s name, the face value of the coin, its issuing country and year.
The reverse shows the image that replicates the Kiwi Statuette (1899-1903) crafted under Michael Perchin’s supervision. The latter is known as the most famous of all workmasters in the House of Carl Faberge. Kiwi are flightless birds, about the size of chickens, endemic to New Zealand. The kiwi statuette was carved in agate with the beak and legs made of gold and two rubies inserted as the bird’s eyes. The image on the reverse is struck in high relief with selective gilding of the beak and legs. There are also four Swarovski crystals filling the coin with extravagance and luxury. Apart from being a great gift, the Kiwi coin will make a wonderful addition to a collection of the most demanding connoisseur of mint art.
