2026 Niue 1/200 Ounce Czech Lion THINCUSE™ Relief Gold Coin

The Czech Mint introduces their new THINCUSE™ technology, making gold accessible to everyone.

Gold is not only valuable, rare and beautiful, but also exceptionally malleable. Although it sounds unbelievable, a single troy ounce can be hammered into a sheet with an area of 10 square metres. They haven’t gone quite that far at the Czech Mint, but they have nevertheless pushed the boundaries of coin manufacturing once again.

They’ve struck the 2026 Lion from 999.9% fine gold weighing a mere 1/200 of a troy ounce – that is 0.156 grams. Even with such a low weight, they’ve managed to achieve a remarkable diameter of 16 millimetres, making the coin exceptionally thin. At first glance, however, it captivates with its striking relief, dominated by the Czech lion – the traditional heraldic beast of the Czech Republic, made famous worldwide not only by the deeds of Czech kings but also by the Czech Mint’s popular bullion coins.

How did they achieve such a vivid 3D relief on a blank with a thickness of only 40 micrometres – or 0.04 millimetres?? By utilizing THINCUSE™ technology, which has been developing in Jablonec nad Nisou since 2021. The name of this original Czech technology was created by combining two English words — THIN and INCUSE.

So-called incuse coins differ from traditional coins in that their design is sunken on one side. The first such coins appeared as far back as antiquity, but in the 21st century they are produced only rarely and are thus considered a technological and artistic rarity. The brand-new Czech Lion coin is exactly that. It is an authentic coin mintage – not an imitation or gold-plated plastic, which some manufacturers use for such low weights.

Thanks to the lower price point, investors can easily control how much money they invest in precious metals. But that’s not all… Unlike all previous Czech Lions, the mintage is unlimited.

Both sides of the coin feature the Czech lion – a realistically depicted national symbol wearing the Crown of St. Wenceslas. The lion is the work of experienced medal maker Vojtech Dostal, DiS. Because Czech Mint coins are issued under license from a foreign issuer, the island of Niue, their obverse side bears its necessary attributes – the coat of arms, the face value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue, 2026.
