The Mother of Pearl series continues in 2024 with Solomon Islands as the issuing country and now dedicated to the Lunar Year of the Dragon. This incredible numismatic centerpiece contains five ounces of .999 pure silver struck in a proof quality finish. The true ingenuity however, lies in the Mother of Pearl inlay. It comes from the Pinctada Maxima, the largest natural growth pearl oyster. It takes up to 12 weeks to select the most beautiful shells for the series, after which they are sized and then crafted into their designs using ultrasonic waves.
When admiring the Dragon motif, now oval shaped, you’re looking at a design that took up to five weeks to accomplish. Then comes the coloring – which required another five weeks in a special solution to achieve just the right shades.
