The 2024 Solarpunk collector coin is the third issue in The Punk Universe two ounce format series, following Silkpunk and Dieselpunk. Struck in ultra high relief from 99.9% pure silver, it impresses with its exceptional artistry and advanced minting techniques.
The reverse is a meticulously crafted vision of a futuristic civilization inspired by Solarpunk — A movement promoting technology in symbiosis with nature. Lush greenery dominates the architecture: skyscrapers overgrown with vegetation, organic building forms, structures resembling solar pods and efficient balloons floating above the city skyline. Air and water vehicles are also visible, floating above the canals, fully integrated with the surroundings. The extraordinary color intensity achieved through UV printing adds three-dimensional depth to the image, while the varied textures achieved through ultra-high relief enhance the impression of realism.
Under ultraviolet light, hidden details are revealed – constituting an additional element of the design.
The obverse of the coin features the official coat of arms of Niue integrated into a geometric, mosaic pattern. A delicate leaf motif surrounds the coin, harmonizing with the theme of a sustainable, green future. The inscriptions “NIUE 2024 5 DOLLARS AG 999” are arranged in a circular pattern, subtly integrated into the background structure.

Cyberpunk backstory:
The word cyberpunk reflects a sub-genre of science fiction and is characterized by describing a high-tech future in which humans coexist with cyborgs in a virtual reality.
The future in cyberpunk is pessimistic, dark, full of moral destruction, where the advanced technology usually causes more harm than good. Such dystopian image of society is well-described as ‘high tech & low life’.
This genre is also often described by the three concepts – City, Mass, Machine. Action of books, movies or games usually takes place in huge, overcrowded metropolis, where technology has demoralized people by destroying relations between them.
