We’re not sure what to call this… There are the common and well established industry standards: high relief, ultra high relief and more recently introduced by RCM, Extraordinarily High Relief. This is the 2020 1 Kilogram Panda from the renowned mint P. de Greef of Belgium. With its massive depth of 2.75 cm, we’re dubbing this one “Insane High Relief”.
P. de Greef has delivered this absolute masterpiece: the most imposing and lifelike panda portrait that has ever been seen on a coin – and the highest coin relief to have ever been minted. The “Panda – Haut-Relief” was designed by the renown Belgian artist Beni Debacker and the coin is reflecting his exceptional artistic reputation in a truly mind blowing presentation.
The giant panda is a mammal of the bear family and although its distribution area is
very limited, it achieved world-wide publicity as the symbol of the World Wildlife Fund
and other wildlife conservation programs. The species is highly endangered, with an
estimated population of just over 1.800 living in the wild.
