This beautifully designed .999 pure 2 ounce silver coin kicks off a new series dedicated to historic shipwrecks and their fabled sunken treasures. A wonderful imprint on the background depicts a luxurious Whydah Gally, encircled by a ring of floral ornaments.
The site of the shipwreck with treasures on the seabed has been reproduced in 1.5 mm relief on the foreground.
During its maiden voyage, the Whydah Gally was hijacked by Samuel Bellamy or “Black Sam”. In 1717, the ship fully drowned in storm near Cape Code taking the lives of 144 people and burying tons of gold, silver and jewelry.
It was located in 1984 and among the discovery, a well-preserved bell helped to identify the remains of the doomed Whydah Gally.
